Sgt. Chad's Weekly Crime Roundup

This is an arrest reported by Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office.

Saturday night at approximately 6:30 p.m., Dade County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint at the intersection of Deer Head Cove Road and Highway 11. While conducting the checkpoint, deputies observed a vehicle occupied by Shawn L Brown. Deputies detected a very strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, and requested that the vehicle be pulled to the side of the road.

After speaking with the three occupants, the officers found Brown (right), 34, of Chattanooga, who was a rear-seat passenger, to be in possession of a backpack. Deputies located several drugs and drug-related items inside Brown’s backpack.

Brown was arrested and charged with several drug-related charges. He was also charged with giving law enforcement officers a false name and date of birth. After confirming Brown's actual name and birth date, it was found that he had a fully extraditable felony warrant out of Hamilton County, Tenn., as well.

The charges against Brown by Dade County were:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine;

  • Possession of Cocaine;

  • Possession of Drug-Related Objects;

  • Possession of Marijuana (less than 1 ounce);

  • Giving False Name/DOB to Law Enforcement Officers.
