Are you 18 to 24 years old? Or do you have someone that age lying on your couch monopolizing the remote? If so, Cassey Blevins wants to hear from you. Her work experience program is recruiting in the Dade area.
The Youth Success Academy program of Georgia Northwestern Technical College coordinates with diverse employers in the area to find young people jobs in areas that interest them. "Like if they're interested in pets and animals, we might be able to place them with a vet," said Ms. Blevins.
Many jobs are 40 hours per week but the program also offer part-time work--"We're flexible," says Blevins--and most pay $8 an hour. The idea is to get young people some work experience so they're more attractive to employers, but Ms. Blevins says there's always the possibility of higher-paid, permanent employment with some participating employers.
The program is accepting applications May 29-June 15 for its summer program, with orientation sessions June 20 and 21. But Ms. Blevins reminds all that the program is year-round so that if young people can't make it this time they are welcome to call for an appointment any time. "We'll work with them one on one," she said.
