We had a good group for Book Club last week.
September’s Book Club selection is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. This classic novel has it all—love, hate, murder, gossip, travel, politics, poetry, death and life. It is also one of the 100 Great American Books. We meet at the library on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Anyone interested is welcome.
Ready to Read on Thursday, Aug. 30, will be about Making Friends. It begins at 10:30. In Ready to Read, our children’s specialist reads and does activities with the pre-school children and then they do a craft.
Our Used Book Bag Sale will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 28. At that time, all the books you can get in a bag will be $5. We also have VHS tapes included in this sale for those of you who still have working VCR.
September is Library Card Signup Month. We encourage any of you who don’t have a library card to sign up for one. If you live in Georgia, work in Georgia or own property in Georgia, your library card is free. You must show ID or proof of address, or proof of employer or proof of property ownership. If you live out of state (we have several patrons from Alabama), a library card costs $25 per family per year.
Library cards expire every two years so that we can update addresses and phone numbers. Renewal is free as well. If you sign up for a new card OR renew your card during September, your name will go into a drawing for a gift card. Ask us about this beginning Sept. 1.
Do you know what the fourth most used language in the U.S. is? It is American Sign Language. During the month of September there will be sign language classes on Tuesdays at the library. The beginner class will be at 4 p.m. and a slightly more advanced class for reviewing and practicing will meet at 5 p.m.
These classes are free! There is no cost to attend. There will be a textbook available for purchase for $5, should you choose to purchase it. Sign up to reserve your spot by calling the library at 657-7857.
