The kids had a great time this week doing yoga with Amanda Henslee and Bonnie Cayce. We had 170 kids and 95 adults and some of the adults took part as well.
Kids may still sign up for Summer Reading through June 23. Next week’s program is Magician Ken Scott and he is always a great favorite for our kids’ programs. As usual, the program begins at 10:30 on Thursday.
Things are a lot quieter after Summer Reading, but we’re having a pretty regular group of guys of the teenage persuasion coming in on Thursday afternoon to play Magic. We’re glad to have them, too.
Kids who want to participate in our Lego Expo should pick up an entry form at the library soon. The Lego Expo will be on Thursday, June 30. Kids will design and build their own Lego creations, using their own Legos. Their creations must be at the library by June 28 to be eligible for prize drawings.
Sack lunches for kids are available through the end of June.
Dade First/Family Connection’s monthly meeting will be next Thursday, June 23, at 1 p.m. This is a little later than usual. Dr. Jan Harris, our new superintendent of schools, will be the speaker and lunch will be provided.
We are happy to announce that Georgia Author of the Year Raymond L. Atkins will be at the library on Tuesday evening, June 28, at 7 pm. He will be discussing his latest book, South of the Etowah: The View from the Wrong Side of the River. Atkins is the author of four novels: The Front Porch Prophet, Sorrow Wood, Camp Redemption, and Sweetwater Blues.
South of the Etowah is a collection on very entertaining and humorous nonfiction essays. Atkins has visited our library before and he usually does a reading and talks about his book as well as signing books for those who have them. He will probably bring a few copies to sell as well. Everyone is welcome to come to this Summer Reading Program for adults.
