Get free state park admission in exchange for volunteering at Cloudland Canyon this weekend!
Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park is sponsoring Your State Parks Day this Saturday, Sept. 24, in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. Outdoor lovers are invited to enjoy the incredible scenic wonders of Cloudland Canyon State Park. With FREE admission in exchange for volunteering, this will be a beautiful time of year to enjoy one of Georgia’s most popular state parks.
All volunteers should start at the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park tent to gather for various volunteer projects beginning at 9:45 am. After signing in, you will be directed to a project leader. Volunteer projects will end by 1 p.m. The Friends Of Cloudland Canyon tent will be set up in front of the Interpretive Center near the main overlook area of the park.
A number of needed service projects have been planned. Grab your work gloves and your gardening shovels and join us as we enhance garden, picnic, and playground areas throughout the park. Help us enhance the Yurt Village playground; installing fence, mulching, planting, installing natural playground logs and creating a dry creek to direct water flow through the playground area.
Or join supervised trail maintenance projects on the Backcountry Trail. Other projects include power-washing concrete picnic tables and servicing recycling collection cans.
Activities at the park include caving, which can be muddy fun as demonstrated in this photo by Christine Rose. Cave tours are offered by park concessionaire the Georgia Girl Guides (georgiagirlguides.com).
Fun Stuff, Too
Many family friendly activities will be offered on Saturday as well. These include: Introduction To Disc Golf, hayrides (additional fee), catfish pond fishing (poles available), hikes, nature exhibits, kids' crafts and scavenger hunt, bluegrass music and a breakfast and lunch concession.
There will also be a park bike tour, celebrating Adventure Cycling Association’s “Bike Your Park Day.” This two-hour ride will meet at the Interpretive Center at 1:45 pm.
