Tri-State Car Chase Roars Through Dade from Ala., Ends in Flames in Tenn.

September 25, 2017

This morning (Monday, Sept. 25) at approximately 1:45 a.m., Dade County deputies received a call from DeKalb County (Ala.) law enforcement in regards to a pursuit DeKalb was involved in. Alabama officers were about to enter Dade on I-59, chasing a white four-door pickup truck occupied by four or five people.

Dade County deputies along with Trenton Police Department officers responded to the interstate to assist. Dade County deputies joined the pursuit around the six-mile marker and began giving updates of the location, and they advised the suspect vehicle was going approximately 110 miles per hour.

Trenton PD officers and Dade deputies waited at the Scenic View pull-off, where a Trenton officer deployed spike strips in an effort to end the pursuit safely. The suspect vehicle hit the spike strips and slowed its speed, almost coming to a stop under the Highway 136 overpass. But the vehicle continued moving, eventually losing all of its tires and riding on the brake rotors.

The vehicle then took Interstate 24 east toward Chattanooga. Dade County deputies stayed in pursuit on the vehicle until a Tennessee unit could join DeKalb County deputies. The suspect vehicle continued on Interstate 24 East and onto Interstate 75 North, eventually coming to a stop due to the fact it was starting to catch fire.

All occupants were removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. DeKalb County deputies recovered some narcotics that were thrown from the vehicle during the chase.

The identities of the occupants of the vehicle are unknown to Dade County at this time. DeKalb has not yet shared that information with Dade.
