Tech College Adds Dade's Cantrell to Board

October 11, 2017

Dr. James Cantrell, director of school operations of the Dade County Board of Education, has been sworn into the board of directors for Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

Cantrell (left, with GNTC President Pete McDaniel) has been a fixture in Dade’s school system for the past decade or so, earlier heading up vocational and technical training programs in the schools and latterly performing a stint as assistant principal at Dade County High School. As such, he has often coordinated with GNTC, which is now offering college credit courses at DCHS.

Cantrell holds a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in education leadership and administration and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in educational leadership. Before coming to Dade, he held education administration posts in other Georgia counties including Greene, Barrow and Baldwin.

Georgia Northwestern’s board of directors is comprised of 16 members from the business and industrial communities from nine counties in the service area, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker and Whitfield. Board members are selected because of their experience, ability and dedication to deal with issues that relate to the mission of occupational education and are without contractual, employment or personal financial investment in the school.
