Carl Cross

May 11, 2018

Carl Eugene “Lolly” Cross of Wildwood died at his home on Friday, May 11, 2018, surrounded by his family.

A lifelong resident of Wildwood, Lolly made his home there after his service in the U.S. Air Force. He had served on the board of directors of Dade County Family and Children Services. He was a farmer after retiring as a lineman for Bell South, and playing in the dirt at his Creek Road home was one of his greatest joys. In his later years, he often watched The Price is Right before heading outside for the day. An avid gardener well known for his green thumb, he had recently spent time outside tending to newly planted fruit trees. He could grow anything successfully and found great joy in sharing his bounty with family and strangers alike.

Lolly was preceded in death by his parents, Lettye Wilson Cross and Clarence “Shine” Cross; five brothers, Ray, Jack, Clarence Jr., Donald and Fred; along with three sisters, Mary Ruth, Faye and Doris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Bertha Mae Cross; sister, Janet (James) Hixon; two children, Mark and Connie Cross, and two grandchildren, Zach and Beth Cross, along with several nieces and nephews.

Lolly was a husband, father, veteran, gardener and the best Paw-Paw ever. He was a member of Hooker Church of Christ and a man known to be strong in his faith.
