Summer isn't over by a long shot on the Julian calendar but on the school calendar the countdown has started. Dr. Jan Harris, superintendent of Dade County Schools, announces Institute 2018, this year's school kickoff, next Tuesday, July 31.
Institute, a welcome-back program for school staffers and community leaders, begins at 8 a.m. on the 31st at Dade County High School off Highway 136 East.
Then, also on July 31, orientation for Dade County High School Freshman Academy is from 6-7:30 p.m. in the high school.
Open house for Davis and Dade Elementary is on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 4:30-6 p.m. Open house for Dade Middle and Dade County High School is also Aug. 2, 2018, from 5-6:30 p.m.
The first day of school for students is the next day, Friday, Aug. 3.
Here are opening and closing times for Dade's individual schools:
Davis Elementary School - 8:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. (doors open at 7:20 a.m.)
Dade Elementary School - 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (doors open at 7:30 a.m.) (Early dismissal option for Pre-K/Kindergarten students only - 2:45)
Dade Middle School - 7:50 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
Dade County High School - 7:50 a.m. to 3:09 p.m.
