Have you ever thought of becoming a beekeeper? Here's your chance to learn about this fulfilling and rewarding hobby. It is easier than you may think, and more rewarding than you could imagine.
The Chattooga County Beekeepers will present an "Introduction to Beekeeping" seminar on Saturday, Jan. 12. The seminar will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It takes place at the Agriculture Building located at 32 Middle School Road, Summerville, Georgia 30747, just off Highway 100.
This introduction to the fascinating art and science of beekeeping teaches you how to get started. Beginning with an overview of beekeeping, you will learn about honey bee biology, equipment and hive tools, starting with nucs (nucleus hives) vs. packages; honeybee package installation; products of the hive; and challenges faced during the first year in the management of hives. Our Chattooga County club members will be on hand to help with your questions about entering beekeeping this spring!
Price for admission is $35 per person. Lunch is furnished. Preregistration payment in full is required by Jan. 9, 2019. Call Randy Rolen, (423) 304-2714, to preregister. No registrations taken the day of seminar.
