Coke Oven Hike OFF, New Home Cleanup ON for Saturday

March 1, 2019

Despite the rains of this morning, the weather for Saturday is predicted to be no worse than cloudy, and organizers of the cleanup scheduled for the New Home community say it's on. Volunteers, please meet at the New Home Community Center Saturday at 10 a.m. to pick up trash on Sand Mountain. Everyone is welcome and everyone is needed. Volunteers will pick up trash and help make piles to be disposed of.

However, another Saturday event on Sand Mountain, the long-planned historical coke oven hike, postponed from February, has been postponed again. Organizers gave no reason for this Saturday's postponement, but last time they expressed concern about muddy roads and trails with all the recent rain. A new date of March 23, noon-5 p.m., has been posted on the society's website. The Planet will attempt to confirm that closer to the time.
