Sheriff to Hold Press Conference about 1980s Body; City Government to Hear Grievance

March 25, 2019

Here are a couple of interesting-sounding items that will be happening today, for which The Planet had no previous notice; plus another couple of things for later in the week that were already scheduled (in case, for some unimaginable reason, you don't read the Upcoming Events list on the home page of The Dade Planet).

  • First, from Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office: There will be a joint press conference, involving our agency and the GBI, in reference to the female body that was recovered in the 1980s in the Wildwood area, today at 2 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office (75 Case Avenue).

  • Then from City Hall: A special called meeting of the Trenton City Commission will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 25,  at City Hall to hear and consider a personnel appeal.

  • The Dade Industrial Development Authority (IDA) will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25, in the Dade Administrative Building. IDA meetings are open to the public, but the public seldom comes. In any case, the meeting time for this month, anyway, has changed to 1:30 p.m. from 3 p.m.

  • There will be a free computer class at the Dade County Public Library on Tuesday, March 26, at 5:30 p.m.  This class will be focus on banking fraud and Internet scams and will be taught be employees from the Bank of Dade.

  • The Alzeheimer’s Association will host a caregiver workshop on Wednesday, March 27, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Thrive Brow Wood Assisted Living, 37 Brock Dr., Lookout Mountain, Ga. Speaker will be Susan Greene. The event is free, and lunch is provided. Registration is required—call (800) 272-3900 or visit

  • Finally, this is the last week to register for the Blue Ribbon Glow Run, Dade First's annual child abuse awareness event at the Dade County High School track.  You can just show up at the run--that's 8 p.m. on April 26--but if you register in advance you get a free T-shirt. You can sign up at the Dade County Public Library, or here's a link for online registration:
