Our next summer fun event will be the Dade County 4-H Global Rocket Launch on July 16! This year is the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, and July 16 is the day Apollo 11 launched on its historic mission to the moon. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville is organizing a worldwide model rocket launch to celebrate this milestone. You can go to www.rocketcenter.com/globalrocketlaunch for more details on the world event. You can participate as an individual, a family or a group. People from all over the world will be launching rockets of all types and tagging their photos and videos with #GlobalRocketLaunch on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube for everyone to see.
Dade County 4-H is already registered in the event, and we invite you to join us at the Ag Center on July 16. We will have materials available to make simple rockets of various types beginning at 5:00 p.m. You can also make a rocket at home and bring it to the Ag Center. Here is a website with several rocket ideas:
We will also be posting different rocket-making instructions on our Dade County 4-H Facebook page.
You may arrive at the Ag Center any time from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to make rockets or compare rockets. We will have our official launch of everyone’s rockets at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your cameras and hashtag your posted photos with #GlobalRocketLaunch to officially be a part of this worldwide event!
The Dade County 4-H Global Rocket Launch is free to the public and open to all ages. This will be a fun family event that all children and adults can participate in. As an added bonus, concessions will be available for purchase by Uncle Lar's Outpost!
Bring the family, eat some hot dogs and popcorn, and launch some rockets!
If you are interested in attending the event, please call the Dade County UGA Extension office at (706) 657-4116 with the number of people in your party, so we will have enough rocket-making supplies for everyone. See you on the 16th!
